Teaching & Mentorship
Helping student creators find their footing and trust their own decisions.

Room to Learn and Create
One of the parts of my work I’ve enjoyed most is helping student interns bring an idea to life. There’s a lot to learn between imagining a show and publishing an episode, and I wanted them to have the support to work through that process themselves.
We worked on real productions, giving students opportunities to practice, ask questions, solve problems, and discover what they could do.
How I Supported Them
I helped interns think through projects from the beginning: developing a concept, writing scripts, preparing interview questions, and planning a recording. I also taught camera setup, lighting, audio, editing, and publishing.
As they took on more responsibility, my role became a source of support. I helped troubleshoot when something went wrong and offered feedback as the work developed. I wanted them to understand their options, make their own decisions, and feel confident moving a project forward.
Learning Through the Work
A production gives you plenty of moments when you have to make a choice: which question to ask next, how to frame a shot, or what belongs in the edit.
I wanted students to get comfortable making those choices and explaining their thinking. We could look at what worked, talk through what needed attention, and use that experience to strengthen the next episode.
What They Created
BOLD — A Student Success Podcast
What helps someone make the most of college? On BOLD, student hosts sat down with fellow student leaders to hear their stories and explore the experiences, habits, and decisions that helped them find their footing.
The conversations brought together personal storytelling and practical advice students could use in their own college lives. Isabel hosted early in the show’s run, with Edgardo taking over later.
The interns owned the production: finding guests, scheduling interviews, developing questions, hosting conversations, operating cameras and audio, and editing the finished episodes.
My role was to help them succeed in that ownership. I made sure they had what they needed, helped troubleshoot production problems, and offered feedback along the way as they brought each episode to completion.

What Stays With Me
It’s rewarding to see someone become more comfortable trusting their judgment—to watch them move from needing help with each step to taking ownership of a production.
That’s what I hoped to give the interns: practical skills, someone to turn to when they got stuck, and enough room to discover what they were capable of creating.
